Rockets predicted to cut ties with Kevin Durant, acquire $120 million former All-Star

The Houston Rockets' 2025-26 season ended in disappointing fashion.

Although Houston fought back and made their first-round series against the Los Angeles Lakers more competitive than expected, they were ultimately eliminated by the Lakers on Friday via a 98-78 season-ending loss.

Naturally, it only makes sense for Kevin Durant to be at the forefront of offseason trade rumors, as it’s unclear if his stint with the Rockets will continue beyond this year. On Saturday, Durant was linked to a blockbuster trade that would send him to the Miami Heat for a 6-foot-5 former All-Star.

“Durant may be in the twilight of his career, but he obviously still has the name value of a star and generally plays like one too,” Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey wrote Monday.

“He's undoubtedly more consistent (and lately, more available) than Tyler Herro. And inside-out actions with he and Bam Adebayo could give the Miami Heat a more dynamic attack than they've had in years.”

“Herro would give the Rockets another young(ish) guard and tough shotmaker to play in the backcourt with Reed Sheppard and/or Fred VanVleet. He's averaged at least 20 points, five assists, and two triples in each of the last five years.”

Bailey’s trade idea would swap Durant for Hero and Nikola Jovic. Herro, like Durant, can’t seem to escape yearly trade rumors. The Heat have reached the NBA Finals twice with Herro as a top-3 scorer, but Miami’s last two seasons haven’t been up to par.

Miami was swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of last year’s postseason and failed to make the playoffs the year prior. Could a drastic move be in the cards for the three-time NBA champions? Perhaps, and if so, fans should expect Herro to be included in any significant trade they complete.

We all know that the Kentucky product isn’t on Durant’s level offensively, but he could be a better fit with the Rockets moving forward. Of course, we’ll only find out if Bailey’s trade concept materializes this summer.
