Richard Jefferson reveals the physicality against Victor Wembanyama is normal for stars

As a 7'5" basketball player, it is expected that Victor Wembanyama will face a high level of physicality. Since he is nearly unstoppable on offense, the best way to defend him is by being physical with him.

In the Western Conference Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the Oklahoma City Thunder, the latter has deployed this strategy. Isaiah Hartenstein has been quite physical with his defense, but it seems people like Richard Jefferson are well aware of this when it comes to star players.

Richard Jefferson believes the physicality against Victor Wembanyama is to be expected

Creating defensive schemes against a talent like Wemby is difficult. He is one of the tallest NBA players, but he has a varied skillset that involves him being an awesome perimeter player as well.

It is hard to defend him, but being physical against him can work. Since he can get beaten up and tired from all the physicality, his game is affected.

According to RJ, that kind of physicality is normal for any star player. Some players are just unstoppable, and the best way to prevent them from scoring is through physicality.

"Wemby is getting the crap beat out of him. That’s what it takes. Kobe Bryant gets the crap beat out of him, Shaquille O’Neal would get the crap beat out of him, like I’m saying. That's a part of the formula in the postseason is to be ultra physical with the other team's best players," Jefferson said on The Road Trippin' Show.

Wemby is not the only player to experience this because on the other side of the WCF, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is also experiencing a high level of physicality.

This is normal for most NBA stars, and that is what Jefferson wants to point out. It can be a tough topic to discuss due to the flopper discourse, but Jefferson makes a valid point.
