The future of LeBron James remains uncertain as we sit weeks away from the start of free agency.
Will he play or will he hang up his basketball sneakers for good?
It's too early to tell, but that isn't stopping teams from showing their interest in the future Hall of Famer.
James' agent, Rich Paul, revealed the number of teams that are interested in the four-time champion, and it's more than you think. Paul appeared on the Pat McAfee show and said that about 10 to 12 teams have called about James this summer.
"I would say without naming names about 10 or 12 [teams]," Paul said when asked how many teams are interested in James this free agency.
— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) June 12, 2026There is a chance that James will enter his unprecedented 24th season in the league, and even so, he remains a hot commodity on the free agent market.
LeBron James remains a hot commodity in free agency and it's not by accident
Paul didn't reveal the team that called about him, but there is a chance it was teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers, to name a few.
The Akron native is coming off a productive 2025–26 campaign despite missing the start of the season because of a sciatica injury. In 60 games, James averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from 3-point range.
James elevated his play even further in the postseason, posting stronger numbers across the board and once again proving he can perform at a high level.
James has shown he still has plenty left in the tank. However, his future with the Lakers and in the league remains uncertain, as both sides have significant decisions to make regarding the upcoming season and the next stage of his career.
As for Paul, if James decides to come back, they will do the best they can to put themselves in a position to best compete for a title.
