While the Cincinnati Reds got off to a very strong start to the season, they've struggled recently, and now are looking up from the bottom of the NL Central with a 32-35 record.
But the Reds have a chance to go on a run and sneak into the postseason, but it's going to take adding some help to the roster, whether it's players coming back from injury, or a trade or two by the August 3 trade deadline.
If they do add to their team this season, they might benefit from an infield pick-up. With that in mind, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer named the Reds as the "Best Landing Spot" for Houston Astros All-Star infielder Isaac Paredes.
Reds named as best landing spot for Isaac Paredes trade
"Whereas Isaac Paredes is merely a safe option for most teams, he would represent a monumental upgrade for the Reds at third base," Rymer writes.
Since Paredes is a pull-hitter with decent power, he would be a great fit offensively at Great American Ballpark. Not only that, but Paredes has something that would make him a lot more appealing than other trade options: control.
The Astros slugger is under club control for the 2027 season, meaning even if the Reds trade for him by August 3 during the 2026 season, and miss the playoffs, they will still have a chance the next season with Paredes still on the roster.
The two-time All-Star infielder, with the ability to play second or first base if needed for the Reds, would be a nice trade acquisition regardless of whether they make the postseason this year or not.

He has a .236 average this season with nine homers and 0.9 bWAR in 64 games with a .738 OPS and 106 OPS+. Those aren't especially great numbers, but they're not terrible either.
He had an .809 OPS during the 2025 season, and has previously hit 31 homers in a season before. If the seven-year veteran can put it all together during one season, he could have a fantastic season, one good enough to warrant a starting job on the All-Star team.
Paredes is only 27 years old and is under club control through the 2027 season. He would be a great trade option for the Reds, as Ke'Bryan Hayes and Eugenio Suarez don't look to be the short or long-term solutions at third base.
