Reds add former Yankees reliever to bullpen after short Pirates stint

The Cincinnati Reds have claimed a former New York Yankees reliever off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. 

The right-hander made it into just four games with the Pirates before he was designated for assignment. 

On Thursday, the Reds announced that Ron Marinaccio has been added to the roster. Fellow righty Chase Solesky was claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays, but he was sent to Triple-A Louisville. 

Marinaccio, 31, spent the first three seasons of his career with the Yankees. He mostly worked in mid-relief and continued that role across his 40 games from 2025-26 with the Padres. 

Cincinnati is taking a chance that Marinaccio will manage to bounce back from a poor start to the season. In 52.1 innings, he has struck out 18.4% of the opponents he's faced while posting an ERA just below 5.00.

Marinaccio is out of minor league options but is controllable for three more seasons after this one. 

Solesky, 28, made his Major League debut with the Rays earlier this season. 

The Reds are in the mix for the third and final NL Wild Card spot, sitting 4.5 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies.
