Chicago Blackhawks hockey fans had a bittersweet feeling on Tuesday night.

Patrick Kane tied an all-time NHL record, but he did it in a Detroit Red Wings uniform.

The long-time Blackhawks star is now tied for the most points ever scored in the NHL for a career by an American-born player.

Mike Modano held the record at 1,374 points.

With an assist against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday, Kane is up to 1,374 himself.

Kane has reached that mark with just more than a point per game.

In his NHL career, Kane has played 1,341 games to get those 1,374 points. He has exactly 500 goals to go with 874 assists.

The 37-year old Kane won three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks, playing in 1,161 games in Chicago with 1,225 points (446 goals, 779 assists).

He played 29 games with the New York Rangers at the end of the 2022-23 season (5 goals, 7 assists), and has spent the last three campaigns with Detroit (49 goals, 87 assists).

It's just a matter of time before Kane gets another point and takes this record all for himself.

When he passes Modano, Kane will rank 27th in NHL history in points, just behind Evgeni Malkin, who of course is still climbing, too.

It's quite the feat for Kane, even if it happened in a different uniform than the one he spent most of his career wearing.
