Red Sox to trade with Brewers for infielder who was third in NL Rookie of the Year voting

This offseason has been a huge one for the Boston Red Sox. They've revamped their starting rotation and added a huge bat in Willson Contreras as a new first baseman.

But, with Alex Bregman leaving for the Chicago Cubs, the Red Sox needed to find a way to bring in more talent for the infield. They've had a tough time finding the right trade piece, but they've finally landed on their new guy.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Red Sox are trading with the Milwaukee Brewers for infielder Caleb Durbin. The third-place finisher for NL Rookie of the Year is coming to Boston, rounding out their infield.

Red Sox finally land new infielder in trade for Brewers' Caleb Durbin

"Trade News: The Boston Red Sox are acquiring third baseman Caleb Durbin in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers, sources tell ESPN," Passan reports. "Left-hander Kyle Harrison is headlining the three-player package headed back to Milwaukee."

The Red Sox are trading for Durbin, who will now take over at third base for the Red Sox. Marcelo Mayer will move to second base, and with Trevor Story at shortstop and Contreras at first base, the infield is now set.

The 25-year-old third baseman is coming off a solid rookie season for the Brewers. In 136 games, he put up 2.8 bWAR with 114 hits, 25 doubles, 11 home runs, 53 RBIs, 18 stolen bases, 30 walks, only 40 strikeouts, a .256 batting average, and a .721 OPS.

Durbin also led Major League Baseball with 24 hit-by-pitches this past season, and, combined with great defense at third base, he was a very valuable player for the Brewers.

Kyle Harrison isn't the only player involved in this trade. According to Passan, David Hamilton and left-hander Shane Drohan are going to the Brewers in this trade.

But, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic, the Red Sox are getting more than just Durbin in this deal. They're also acquiring a Compensatory round B pick, Andruw Monasterio, and Anthony Seigler in this trade.

Boston is landing a key new infielder, and to do so, they've given up one of the core pieces of the Rafael Devers trade in Harrison.

But now, with Durbin coming to Boston, their infield is set, and the team is just about complete heading into Spring Training. More moves could be on the horizon, but for now, the starting lineup looks set.
