Red Sox sign Venezuelan IFA to minor league deal

The Boston Red Sox have signed 16-year old Harold Rivas of Venezuela to a minor league deal, per Ben Badler. Rivas is ranked #17 on Fangraphs 2025 IFA list, and is expected to receive a million dollars in his signing bonus.

SoxProspects.com summarizes him as so: “High-risk, high-reward profile at the plate with a strong defensive profile to fall back on. Produces big exit velocities and bat speed already, but there are major questions about how his hit tool will develop. Potential plus-to-better defensive profile already, which puts less pressure on his bat, but if he hits, could develop into a high-end, two-way player”.

Rivas is the recipient of the second-largest bonus in the Sox’s 2025 international free agent draft class, so they must think he will pan out.

This puts another young outfielder in the Sox’s farm, which is already loaded with the position. It seems the Sox are putting themselves in a place where if you want young outfield talent, you should strike up a deal with the Sox.
