For the past couple seasons, the Sox have dealt with one big problem on their roster: an overcrowded outfield. Right now, they are carrying five starting-level outfielders on their MLB roster, and a sixth that can bounce between Boston and AAA.
With this wealth of quality outfielders, they really need to consider lightening their load. Luckily, there’s a team that’s desperate for an outfielder: the Philadelphia Phillies. With the season-ending injury to Adolis Garcia, Philly needs someone to take his place.
Luckily, the Red Sox have two offers if Philly wants them: Jarren Duran or Masataka Yoshida.

While the duo aren’t playing at their normal levels, they are still a step above Garcia. Before his injury, Garcia was slashing .195/.270/.329/.599 with eight doubles, seven home runs, and 21 RBI in 67 games.
Conversely, Duran is slashing .210/.268/.389/.657 with nine doubles, 11 home runs, 36 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 63 games. Yoshida has been slashing .238/.329/.323/.652 with six doubles, a home run, and 10 RBI in 46 games.
Either player would be a step up from Garcia, and a new system might benefit them.
Dealing Duran hinges on Roman Anthony

Trading Yoshida would be much easier, but not Duran. With Roman Anthony still out with a ligament tear, the Sox would want the best possible left fielder they can have while Anthony recovers. That left fielder would be Duran.
If Anthony can show a clear timetable to return, Boston may be much more open to dealing Duran. However, if they can’t get a date, then dealing Duran may be harder to do.
Boston would ask for prospects

While they would get someone for the big league roster, Boston should probably start thinking about rebuilding their farm. Philly has some solid prospects, who could address future problems Boston may have.
For example, Boston has no first baseman behind Willson Contreras. Philly’s No. 28 prospect Keaton Anthony could be a great backup, and become his replacement. Hopefully, Boston does their homework, and gets Philly to bite on a deal.
