Now that the trade deadline has finally passed, Boston has their roster set for the final stretch of the season. They got a three-time All-Star catcher in Adley Rutschman, a slugger in Curtis Mead, and a high-leverage lefty reliever in Erik Miller, along with a couple minor players.
However, they didn’t get their long-term shortstop they wanted, and they didn’t trade away their top prospect, Franklin Arias. Those two things speak to Boston’s future at the position, and who will fill it for the years to come.

This deadline, getting a shortstop was one of the Red Sox’s main goals. They shopped around for quite a bit, inquiring into names such as Elly De La Cruz, CJ Abrams, Zach Neto, Otto Lopez, Xavier Edwards, and many others.
However, it seems that the prices for said shortstops were just too great for the Red Sox to justify. For instance, the Los Angeles Angels wanted a package centered around Arias, plus more. Another thing as well was the fact some teams didn’t want to part with the infielders unless they were blown away, such as the Marlins.
So now, the Red Sox have to rock with the core of Anthony Seigler, Andruw Monasterio, Nick Sogard, Trevor Story, and Isiah Kiner Falefa for the rest of the season. That is of course, if Boston’ doesn’t decide to shake things up.
Arias’ future has been revealed

Because the Red Sox didn’t move Arias, it pretty much shows they think he’s the shortstop of the future. Also, there’s some weight behind this idea since they traded away their other young shortstop, Marcelo Mayer.
So, Boston has two choices: they can call up Arias next month depending on how he does in AAA, or they can elect to let him finish the season down there, and call him up in 2027.
Right now, Arias is slashing .286/.350/.514/.864 with two doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, and 10 hits overall in just eight games at AAA. If the Sox want help in the middle infield, it seems like he might be ready in a month if he continues this pace.
Hopefully, Boston keeps on trucking, and if he’s ready, bring Arias into the mix for a postseason run.
