Red Sox reveal interesting update regarding outfield logjam of Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, Jarren Duran

The Boston Red Sox have been dealing with a good problem since the call up of Roman Anthony, with that problem being that they have too many good outfielders. Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, Jarren Duran, and Ceddanne Rafaela have all been fighting for playing time, leading critics to believe one would be traded this offseason.

However, that might not be the case anymore. According to the Boston Globe’s Tim Healey, Sox CBO Craig Breslow currently has all four outfielders still on the roster in 2026.

“According to executives from multiple clubs that have been in the market for outfielders and have talked trade possibilities with the Red Sox, Breslow’s message has been consistent. He has Roman Anthony, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, and Jarren Duran on the roster. He is comfortable keeping it that way into next season unless a team convinces him not to,” Healey wrote.

Healey clarified, though, that the Sox could still trade an outfielder, but now Breslow is open to keeping them as well.

“Entering the offseason, the Red Sox dealing an outfielder — either for prospects or to bolster the major league squad — seemed inevitable because of their surplus. And it very much remains in the realm of possibility. But Breslow has been clear that he will not do so just because he can,” Healey stated.

Keeping all four outfielders would be nice. Anthony is set to be a franchise player, Abreu just won back-to-back Gold Gloves, Rafaela won his first Gold Glove, and Duran’s offensive output is almost as good as last year.

However, if they can trade an outfielder to strengthen a weakness, they very well should. Hopefully Boston figures out what they want to do soon, as the offseason starts to slow down.
