Red Sox receive trade rumor update regarding Jarren Duran after dominant performance in World Baseball Classic

The Boston Red Sox have been a clear winner of the World Baseball Classic, as many of their players that went dominated. All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran was one of them, as he was a powerful bat for Mexico.

Although, with that performance, some critics believe that the Sox can finally solve their logjam in the outfield. FanSided’s Jake Elman is one of them, and proposes the Sox use Duran’s success to trade him.

“A Duran trade feels inevitable, given the Red Sox’s outfield depth and his being under team control through 2028. Although Duran’s offensive numbers took a step back last year, he remains a high-upside player who recorded 70 extra-base hits and 24 stolen bases in 2025. As a bonus, Duran has experience playing all three outfield spots. Although Duran struck out six times in 15 plate appearances during the WBC, he also hit three homers and stole two bases. Granted, I’m biased because Duran has quickly become one of my favorite players. I tend to focus on the good, here,” Elman wrote.

This past season in the MLB, Duran slashed .256/.332/.442/.774 with 41 doubles, 13 triples, 16 home runs, 84 RBI, and 24 stolen bases in 157 games played. He’d be an elite five-tool outfielder for any team that needs him.

As for money, he’s under control for this upcoming season and the two after it. So he’d be a very cost-effective player for any team.

However, this performance might be the reason the Sox hold onto him as well. They could use Masataka Yoshida’s performance in the WBC as an example as well, deal him, and have Duran rotate between the outfield and DH. Hopefully, that’s the case, as Duran is a core part of the offense, but if the Sox are made an offer they can’t refuse, they do have backup plans.
