The Boston Red Sox surprised everyone when they signed Ranger Suarez, after missing on Pete Alonso and letting Alex Bregman walk in free agency. Now, they need to make one last move to appease their fanbase, and to set themselves up for contention.
Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes the Sox will try free agency one more time, and sign two-time All-Star Eugenio Suarez. Suarez has already been linked to the Sox before, and if they don’t make a trade for a bat, signing him makes sense.
“As the Boston Red Sox look for Alex Bregman replacements, Eugenio Suárez is probably their best bet. We can criticize the front office for letting it reach that point, but Boston needs right-handed power and Suárez did bop 49 home runs last season. His career numbers at Fenway are tantalizing, and the Red Sox should be able to strike a one- or two-year deal that mitigates the risk associated with Suárez's age and defensive profile,” Kline wrote.
Suarez finished the 2025 season slashing .228/.298/.526/.824 with 28 doubles, 49 home runs, and 118 RBI in 159 games. He’s also a righty, meaning he could see a major bounce-back using the Green Monster to rack up doubles and use high launch angles for home runs.
And for a Sox team that wants to save money, he would be a good option. He’s only projected to receive a two-year, $29 million deal, and with no market as of the moment, they could work that to one-year with an option for a second.
Hopefully, the Sox make at least one more move this offseason. Whether it be a trade or this potential signing, they can’t go wrong.
