Red Sox outfielders combine for coolest home run robbery in MLB history

4 hours ago 1

Kerry Carpenter crushed it. The Detroit Tigers’ slugger affectionately known as “Kerry Bonds” looked to have added another homer to his ledger.

The Boston Red Sox outfield, collectively, had a different idea.

In right field, Wilyer Abreu ran back toward the wall in Detroit. Mind you, this game was tied 5-5.

Anyway, there goes Abreu, ranging deep and deeper and deepest.

At the wall, the left-handed Abreu leaps with the glove on his right hand outstretched.

The soaring baseball hit Abreu’s pocket, but it didn’t stay in.

Instead, it came back into the field of play. Waiting there, having hustled all the way over to track the fly ball, was center fielder Cedanne Rafaela.

In the end, a simple reaction grab for Rafaela and an incredible home run robbery.

Reliever Liam Hendriks reacted with as much excitement as anyone. He’d never seen a grab like this before.

Instead of a deficit, the game was still tied, and the Red Sox had a catch they’d be showing for a long time.
