The Boston Red Sox are in need of a first baseman now that Triston Casas has been ruled out for the year. Could they swing a trade with the Baltimore Orioles to add a starting first baseman?
The Red Sox are working Kristian Campbell out at first base before games, but he may not be a real solution to their problem. Moving him there could facilitate Marcelo Mayer's call-up, but Campbell may not actually be able to handle first base, which is why the Red Sox are putting him through drills right now.
The Baltimore Orioles' season has gone off the rails. They fired their manager and are set up to be sellers at the deadline. FanSided's Justin Long suggested the Red Sox could call them about Ryan O'Hearn.
"It's clear that Boston is in a rough spot at the position, so O'Hearn would make a lot of sense for them," wrote Long. "It would sting to see him land with a division rival, but the Orioles could look to take advantage of Boston's desperation in any trade talks."
O'Hearn will be a free agent after the season and is an ideal trade candidate. He is 31 and would be a rental for any team looking to acquire him. Spotrac projects he will earn a two-year, $28 million deal on the open market. The Orioles may not be interested in bringing him back, so they might as well trade him now.

He is hitting .294 in 37 games. He has a .886 OPS, which gives him an OPS+ of 157. He has hit seven home runs and would be a clear upgrade from what the Red Sox were getting from Casas and their current situation. They may have to pay a little more if they want the Orioles to trade him within the division.
