Cowboys QB Dak Prescott reveals surprising new role in Dallas

Dak Prescott has a new role in Dallas.

The Cowboys haven't had anyone around on their active roster longer than Prescott. He has played nine years with Dallas.

Entering Year 10, Prescott's status as the longest-tenured Cowboys player has earned him a new nickname.

The QB room is calling him "Unc," he revealed to reporters.

Prescott was drafted in the 2016 fifth round and has made an incredible NFL career for himself. He now makes $60 million per year, the current NFL record.

Third-string QB Will Grier was a 2019 draft pick and is now a journeyman. Newly traded-for backup Joe Milton is entering his second NFL season.

Prescott also revealed that his offseason injury recovery is going great and that all he needs is to be cleared for contact. Given that it's only May, he's right on schedule, or even ahead of schedule.

The Cowboys will be counting on "Unc" to lead them in an ultra-competitive NFC East that features the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles and the dynamic Commanders.

Prescott hasn't journeyed as deep into the postseason as he would've liked in his first nine years in Dallas. Maybe his 10th season will prove to be the magic number.
