Red Sox needed just 2 trades to turn starting third baseman from Rafael Devers into Caleb Durbin

The Boston Red Sox have been one of the more interesting teams in Major League Baseball over the last year. They made the postseason, but there's been so much attention thanks to the Rafael Devers trade saga.

The blockbuster Devers to San Francisco Giants trade stunned the baseball world. And now, less than a year later, a lot of those players are no longer with the Red Sox organization.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Red Sox traded Kyle Harrison, one of the main pieces in the Devers trade, to acquire Caleb Durbin from the Milwaukee Brewers. Over the course of just two trades, and less than a year, the Red Sox turned Devers into Durbin.

In return for Devers, the Red Sox, aside from getting out of his entire contract, got Kyle Harrison, James Thibbs, Jordan Hicks, and Jose Bello in return.

Less than a year later, only Bello remains with the Red Sox organization. Hicks, Thibbs, and now Harrison have all been traded.

The most recent trade was a deal sending Harrison, David Hamilton, and Shane Drohan to the Brewers for Durbin, Andruw Monasterio, Anthony Seigler, and a Comp B pick (67th overall).

Durbin finished third in NL Rookie of the Year voting last season, is only 25 years old, and put up a very respectable 2.8 bWAR in his rookie season in Milwaukee.

But, compared to Devers, who's one of the better hitters in baseball, it's a big downgrade for the Red Sox over the course of just two trades.

Thibbs was the first to go, being traded at the MLB trade deadline alongside Zach Ehrhard for just a few months of Dustin May in a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Then, earlier this offseason, Hicks was dealt to the Chicago White Sox alongside a few other players, including David Sandlin, for minor league pitcher Gage Ziehl as part of a salary dump for Boston.

It's been less than a year since the Red Sox traded Devers to the Giants, and all but Bello have been traded in the subsequent months.

Overall, the Red Sox have traded Devers, David Hamilton, David Sandlin, Shane Drohan, Zach Ehrhard, cash, and other minor leaguers for Jose Bello, Caleb Durbin, Gage Ziehl, Andruw Monasterio, Anthony Seigler, a Comp B pick, and a few months of Dustin May.

In just two trades, the Red Sox have gone from Rafael Devers, one of the best sluggers in baseball, to Durbin, a second-year third baseman.
