Third baseman and former New York Yankees prospect Caleb Durbin is back in the AL East after a trade from the Milwaukee Brewers to the Boston Red Sox.
Durbin and lefty Nestor Cortes were the two players the Yankees sent to the Brewers last offseason to acquire two-time All-Star Devin Williams. The 25-year-old finished third in NL Rookie of the Year voting, hitting .256/.334/.387 with 11 home runs and 18 stolen bases in 24 attempts.
While with the Yankees, Durbin set the single-season record for stolen bases in an Arizona Fall League season with 29 in just 24 games. He was not a ranked prospect at the time of the trade to Milwaukee.
Durbin speeds up Yankees-Red Sox rivalry
Trevor Story led the Red Sox last season with 31 stolen bases, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. led the Yankees with an identical number.
Given Durbin's propensity to run and his impressive numbers in the AFL, he has a strong chance to become an annoyance on the basepaths against the Yankees for years to come.
One positive way to view Durbin's arrival in Boston is that the Yankees' minor league system has a firsthand scouting report on him.
