Red Sox listed as possible landing spot for Orioles veteran starter

The Boston Red Sox are off to a slower start than anticipated. The team is in second place in the American League East, but has a 19-19 record.

Their starting rotation has not held up thus far, and they are going to need to find an arm or two at the trade deadline if they want to challenge the New York Yankees.

The Baltimore Orioles are on a slide of epic proportions and have the second worst record in the Junior Circuit. They could potentially trade a piece or two away at the deadline.

One of those pieces is right-hander Zach Eflin. Andrew Wright of Newsweek notes that the Red Sox make sense for Eflin.

"Eflin is in the final season of a three-year, $60 million contract, making him a prime candidate to be moved if Baltimore falls out of contention and feels it could get a nice return from a team who feels it desperately needs to add a starting pitcher," Wright wrote.

"The Yankees, Red Sox, Tigers, Royals and Cubs are all teams that should have interest in Eflin, should he become available."

Eflin is currently on the 15-Day Injured List, but has performed well in his three starts with the Orioles. He's 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA over 18 innings of work.

Last year, Baltimore acquired him from the Tampa Bay Rays, and he helped solidify their rotation down the stretch. Another trade from within the AL East certainly isn't too much of a stretch.

Boston also has the prospects necessary to pull off such a deal. They could bring in somebody who can be trusted to eat innings and generate swings and misses. He also has postseason experience from his days with the Philadelphia Phillies.

It will certainly be interesting to see what Boston decides to do at the deadline.
