Red Sox listed as 'dream landing spot' for $426.5 million Angels MVP

The Boston Red Sox surprised the entire Major League Baseball world late on Father's Day when they shipped Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for pitchers Jordan Hicks and Kyle Harrison.

The relationship between Boston and Devers had soured, and the Red Sox dumped his contract and freed up some payroll space.

This may ultimately have a negative impact on the Red Sox for the rest of the 2025, but they do have room to make a big splash if necessary.

Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report listed Boston as a "dream landing spot" for Los Angeles Angels slugger and three-time American League MVP Mike Trout.

"As ideas go, it's not a hard sell. The Red Sox saved about $200 million by trading Devers, which is roughly what Trout is still owed. They badly need right-handed thump, and Trout could provide it by slotting into Devers' old haunt at DH, with only occasional duty in Boston's youth-infused outfield," Rymer wrote.

Trout has struggled a bit this season. He's hitting .229/.318/.452 with 11 home runs, 27 RBI and a .770 OPS. He also missed a good chunk of time with a knee injury.

But since returning, he has been hitting well, and if he can keep that up, he could be a force down the stretch. Boston would still have to give up a lot for him in order to make this happen.

Of course, it's highly unlikely that this actually does happen. Trout has never requested a trade away from the Angels, and the Halos are even right in the mix for a Wild Card spot.

But this would give Boston a much-needed right-handed power bat to boost their lineup. The 33-year-old is without a doubt a future Hall-of-Famer, and having him around could help Boston tremendously.

We'll see if the Red Sox decide to give the Angels a call about the veteran slugger.
