The Boston Red Sox are in some trouble this season. Not only are they one of the worst teams in baseball, but there are bigger issues than their poor 2026 record.
At 13-21 with Alex Cora fired, the Red Sox's season looks to be a disaster. But things aren't going to get any better anytime soon.
As ESPN's David Schoenfield highlighted while giving the Red Sox an "F" grade for their first month of the year, there is dysfunction plaguing this organization, which is stopping Boston from turning the corner.
Red Sox earn F grade for dysfunction to begin '26 season
"But the problems in the organization appear to run deeper than just a bad month," Schoenfield writes. "Ever since the Mookie Betts trade, the Red Sox have operated with a cloud of dysfunction, only confirmed by general manager Craig Breslow firing manager Alex Cora and five coaches, including two hitting coaches."
Boston has been having a rough year, with the New England Patriots losing the Super Bowl and the Boston Celtics being eliminated after blowing a 3-1 lead over the Philadelphia 76ers. And the Red Sox might be the worst of the bunch.

The Celtics and Patriots actually made the playoffs; the Red Sox look to be extremely far away from such a run. They are 10.0 games back of the New York Yankees in the AL East, and there are a lot of questions about the organization.
The on-field production hasn't been great, even with an elite defense. Their pitching staff has been disappointing and injured, while their offense has been incredibly lackluster.
Boston's got some major issues right now, and it goes well beyond simple struggles to begin the 2026 season. An F grade from Schoenfield isn't just about how bad things are this year, but the organizational dysfunction that's coming to light this year.
