The Los Angeles Lakers face a difficult challenge ahead.
After defeating the Houston Rockets in the opening round of the postseason, the Lakers will be tasked with outdueling the defending-champion Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals. If Los Angeles fails to get the job done, best believe the franchise will be prepared to reload for the 2026-27 campaign.
According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Lakers are expected to compete with the Boston Celtics for a 33-year-old Denver Nuggets NBA champion.
“Several teams are expected to contact the Nuggets as early as before the 2026 NBA Draft with immediate interest in Gordon,” Siegel reported Sunday.
“Teams like the Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, and Boston Celtics are among the many win-now teams Gordon would obviously fit in with as realistic trade suitors.”
It isn’t far-fetched to suggest Gordon will likely land on the trade block this summer. The Nuggets would be wise to retool their roster after another failed postseason, and being open to moving on from the multi-dimensional wing after 5.5 seasons seems like the easiest way to achieve that goal.
Gordon’s dependable long-range shooting and polished slashing ability should undoubtedly entice the Lakers, and a potential deal could help the Nuggets land an ideal replacement for the former Orlando Magic star in a blockbuster deal. Gordon averaged 16.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game this season, shooting 49.7% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc.
If the Nuggets prove willing to end the Gordon experiment in Denver, the Lakers should position themselves to acquire him sooner rather than later.
