Red Sox considered trade fit for Orioles $11.5 million All-Star

The Boston Red Sox finished the first half on a high note by going on a 10-game winning streak. They've slowed down a little, but still are in sole possession of the third American League Wild Card spot.

They are also within striking distance in the AL East. However, there are needs that must be addressed for Boston to make a second half run.

One such need is first base. They have lacked a solution with Triston Casas out for the season due to a knee injury.

Russell Dorsey of Yahoo Sports listed several top trade candidates. One such player was All-Star Ryan O'Hearn, who has put together a strong year for the Baltimore Orioles. Boston was considered a fit.

"Ever since Ryan O’Hearn arrived in Baltimore, he has continuously improved. And this season, he made his first All-Star appearance. But in a year when the Orioles have disappointed and are unlikely to make a run to the postseason, O’Hearn might be their most valuable trade asset right now," Dorsey wrote.

O'Hearn is hitting .278/.373/.451 with 12 home runs, 36 RI and an .825 OPS. He was an All-Star for the first time in his career this summer.

While trades within the same division are exceptionally rare, they are never impossible. Boston has some solid prospects in their system, which is something the Orioles will ask for as a seller.

The Red Sox have performed surprisingly well since Rafael Devers was traded to the San Francisco Giants, but they need some help at first base. O'Hearn could potentially be the answer as they try to bolster their offense for a run down the stretch.

Fenway Park is very hitter friendly, so O'Hearn could benefit from the short right field wall. He would be a rental, but he could be just what the Red Sox need.

We'll see where Boston lands in its search for first base help.
