Earlier this week, the Boston Red Sox designated left-handed pitcher Chase Shugart for assignment after acquiring catcher Blake Sabol from the San Francisco Giants.

Now, on Friday, the Red Sox have agreed to trade Shugart to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for right-handed pitcher Matt McShane, according to FanSided's Robert Murray.

Shugart, 28, was Boston's 12th-round pick in the 2018 MLB draft after playing collegiately for the Texas Longhorns. He made his major-league debut in 2024 and appeared in six total games, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out eight batters in 8 2/3 innings.

McShane, 22, was Pittsburgh's 13th-round pick this past year out of St. Joseph's. In 53 games in college, he posted a 3.76 ERA, 1.396 WHIP and 9.4 K/9 over 119 2/3 innings.
