The next few months are set to be quite a busy time period for Enzo Fernández, as after only having a small break following the conclusion of the Premier League season, he had to report to Argentina's camp for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. So it's safe to say that the Argentine is set to have some tired legs whenever his time in the global spectacle comes to an end.
But performing on the global stage isn't the only thing that has been on Fernandez's mind, as a potential move is on the cards, with the top candidate being Real Madrid, according to recent reports.
Real Madrid's interest in Fernandez
As reported by talkSPORTS' Ben Jacobs, Los Blancos are keen on making a move for the Argentine, with Fernandez reciprocating the same feelings after having teased a potential move in the dying embers of the campaign.
"Real Madrid are set to open talks with Chelsea over Enzo Fernandez, talkSPORT understands..." writes Jacobs. "Fernandez is keen on a move to the Bernabeu and was banned by Chelsea for two games in April after the club were unhappy with the 23-year-old hinting at a switch to Madrid."
That hint of a move came at the end of what was a rough season for the Blues, who finished in tenth place, meaning that there won't be any European football coming to Stamford Bridge in the coming year. However, it wasn't a bad season for Fernandez, given his 22 goal contributions, with his 15 bulges into the back of the net being the most of his time in the English top flight.
Having a transfer come in the midst or following an appearance at the World Cup isn't something new to Fernandez, given that it was only a few months after Argentina's winning run in 2022 that the then-Benfica player would force his way out of the Portuguese top flight for a move to England.
If there is a deal to be done, it's reported that the fee will have to hit the £120 million mark set by the Blues, who are open to the prospect of dealing out the 25-year-old. It would also be the second big acquisition for Real Madrid's midfield department, as they just wrapped up the signing of former Manchester City star Bernardo Silva.
It'll be just another one of the storylines to watch regarding Los Blancos in the coming months before the transfer window slams the door shut.
