It was only a matter of time before Real Housewives of New York City star Daisy Toye invited some of her castmates to her rent-controlled apartment. Even though the price is right, some of the features in her home are a little outdated. In this exclusive clip from tonight’s episode, Jessel Taank and Erika Hammond let Toye in on their unfiltered thoughts about her humble abode.
The clip begins with Toye welcoming Taank to her apartment. “This is so chic,” lies Taank while taking in the foyer and the walls. “I love the art.” Quickly, her eyes go up to the ceiling as Toye goes to get her a drink. “Daisy, there’s popcorn on your ceiling,” says Taank, slightly taken aback. “Oh, God,” says Toye from the kitchen. “Haven’t you ever been in an apartment, Jessel, that has popcorn ceilings?”
“Maybe, like, in the ‘80s,” says Taank as she sits on the couch next to the already seated Hammond. Hammond looks at her, and the two laugh at Taank’s light shade. “I’m an ‘80s baby,” says Taank gleefully.
In her confessional, Taank expressed her full horror at Toye’s decor. “Popcorn ceilings?” asks Taank to the camera. “This is museum-worthy.” Back in the living room, Taank grills Toye. “How long have you guys lived here?”
“Well, I’ve lived here for 10 years; Eugene has been here for 21 years,” answers Toye. “So, he owned this place,” begins Taank. “Not own, rent,” corrects Toye. “You still rent this?” asks Hammond in shock. “It’s a rent-controlled apartment,” says Toye.
“For 21 years,” repeats Hammond, putting down the cracker she was eating. “I just spit out my food,” says Hammond. “That’s actually psycho.” “So, you guys are never gonna leave this space,” says Taank as Toye renters the room with a new bottle of wine. “You’re happy here?”
“Eugene could stay here. I’d need another place for all my clothes,” says Toye. Taank has a horrified expression on her face as she takes a sip of wine. Not thinking Taank’s disgust could be about her living situation, Toye assumes the wine is bad. “Is this disgusting?” asks Toye. “No, I brought it,” says Taank incredulously.
“Oh, okay,” says Toye. “Because your face is like…” Quickly, Taank pivots. “No, ‘cause I’m thinking about where you put your clothes,” says Taank. “Don’t ask,” says Toye. “For the moment, we’re happy here.”
In her confessional, Toye continues to defend her home. “This is a rent-controlled apartment. This is gold. This is winning the lottery in New York City,” says Toye. “Jessel, our rent is what you pay Doctor Balakin to laser your beard once a month.”
Finally, Hammond gets her own confessional. “Everyone has their own, like, uniqueness to their apartment,” says Hammond diplomatically. “Some people—no one I know—that I’ve seen on TikTok have kitchens that are basically in their bathrooms. At least it’s not one of those!”
