Rays cut ties with 27-year old fan favorite to sign contract in Asia

The Tampa Bay Rays are letting a fan favorite pursue other opportunities.

Bob Seymour has been released, the Rays announced on Wednesday, to pursue a contract opportunity in Asia.

The Rays announced the news at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday, and fans quickly shared their sadness in the replies:

Seymour made his MLB debut on August 15.

Something about his name being Bob added to what fans felt about Seymour.

He's a 6-foot-3, 250-pound first baseman, an every man.

Seymour didn't hit particularly well for the rays. He batted .205 with a single home run in 78 at bats.

The former 13th-round pick out of Wake Forest must've felt his best chance at a long career at this point was to head overseas.

Seymour had immense power at Triple-A Durham this season, which should point to a lot of success in whatever Asian league he signs in.

With the Bulls in 2025, Seymour batted .263 with an .881 OPS. That came via 21 doubles, three triples and 30 homers as he drove in 87 runs in 105 games.

Seymour could still work his way back to the majors, but at least for now, he's heading abroad.
