Ravens release of Justin Tucker is next on insider's offseason to-do list

The Baltimore Ravens had never drafted a kicker.

That changed Saturday, when they took Tyler Loop out of Arizona in the sixth round.

A release of Justin Tucker might be next.

Here's how NFL.com's Judy Battista describes the situation:

"Tucker's future -- both because of allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior and because of a very shaky 2024 performance -- remains the biggest unanswered question for one of the league's obvious Super Bowl contenders. The sixth-round selection of kicker Tyler Loop will surely only intensify the spotlight on what happens with Tucker."

Tucker has been with the Ravens since signing as an undrafted free agent before the 2012 season.

He has made 417 career field goals in 468 attempts. He remains the NFL's all-time leader in field goal percentage at 89.1 percent.

His 2024 was his worst on-field year, connecting on just 22-of-30 FG tries (73.3%).

The NFL is also investigating allegations that Tucker engaged in inappropriate behavior with sixteen massage therapists from 2012-2016, first reported by the Baltimore Banner.

Given the combination of factors here, the Ravens likely tipped their hand by drafting Loop.

Loop made 83.8 percent of his field goals at Arizona, a strong number given the wider hash marks in play in college. He booted a make of 62 yards, as well.

The Ravens know good kickers, and they may be ready to move on from Tucker to the next.
