Stassney Brown, the ex-wife of Chargers star left tackle Rashawn Slater, called out a social media post that linked the NFL couple’s divorce to his recent multi-year contract extension.
After the Chargers announced Slater’s deal — a reported $144 million contract extension, with $92 million guaranteed — on Sunday, NFL aggregator Dov Kleiman said it was “good timing” for the 26-year-old, who recently finalized his divorce from Brown.
Brown reposted Kleiman’s message and wrote, “This is deplorable. I hold nothing but support for Rashawn. His contract is not about me. I think we should focus on what’s most important here, and that is his career and his success. Please stop including me in this narrative. He deserves his moment.”
Slater and Brown married in 2022, according to photos posted on her X page.
It’s unclear when exactly they finalized their divorce.
Slater is now the league’s highest-paid offensive lineman on an annual basis at $28.5 million.
“Blessed to accomplish a dream of mine with my family by my side,” he wrote on Instagram, including a snapshot of him signing his extension with his family present. “None of this happens without these people and so many others who have supported me along the way. Just getting started, LFG!”
Slater, who reported to training camp earlier this month amid negotiations, was set to play on his $19 million fifth-year rookie option.
The Chargers made sure to lock in their star blind-side protector for quarterback Justin Herbert, after Slater made his second Pro Bowl with Los Angeles in 2024.
Slater, the No. 13 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, has started all 52 career appearances at left tackle.
In 2024, he started 16 games including the postseason, helping the offense to commit just eight turnovers — setting a franchise record and tying for the second-fewest offensive turnovers in a single season in NFL history
The Chargers open the 2025 campaign against the Chiefs on Sept. 5 in São Paulo, Brazil.
