More than three years after the fact, the A.J. Brown trade keeps getting worse for the Titans.
The Titans announced Monday that wide receiver Treylon Burks, whom the team selected No. 18 overall after acquiring the pick as part of the Brown trade, has been waived.
Burks was waived with an injury designation after hurting his collarbone during practice on Saturday, and if he clears waivers, he’ll wind up back on Tennessee’s injured reserve.
The Titans drafted Burks out of Arkansas with the hope that the 6-foot-2, 225-pound wideout could eventually replace Brown, who already had one Pro-Bowl appearance and two seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards under his belt.
Instead, Burks never proved himself to be an impactful NFL player.
He hauled in 444 yards for one touchdown his rookie year, but notched just 221 yards in 2023 and missed most of the 2024 season with an ACL injury.
The Titans signed former University of Tennessee wide receiver Ramel Keyton to fill Burks’ roster spot.
Tennessee dealt Brown to the Eagles on the night of the 2022 draft in exchange for the No. 18 pick (Burks) and the 101st overall selection, which they traded.
Brown has been terrific since arriving in Philadelphia, notching back-to-back Pro-Bowl nods in 2022 and 2023 and winning the Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2025.
In his three seasons in Philly, he has accumulated 4,031 receiving yards and hauled in 25 touchdowns.
Frustrated Titans fans took to social media at the news of Burks’ getting waived, with many teeing off on then-general manager Jon Robinson.
“AJ Brown for Burks. Jon Robinson should be banned from football,” wrote one fan on X.
“Jon Robinson will pay for what he did to this franchise,” said another.
“Good riddance,” a third said of Burks. “One of too many crappy 1st round picks by this franchise over the years.”
