Rangers' Vincent Trocheck trade cost revealed, with Wild and Sabres involved in rumors

The New York Rangers have been considering a trade of Vincent Trocheck for months.

It still hasn't happened, though, and so the rumors continue to swirl.

Trocheck is apparently of interest to the Minnesota Wild and Buffalo Sabres, according to recent reports.

And if he moves, he won't come cheap.

The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reports that it'll cost a first-round pick plus another "solid asset/prospect" to get Trocheck.

Some believe it’s a 1st round pick + at least one other solid asset/prospect as the going rate for Trocheck. Sabres were engaged yesterday, too. https://t.co/Sg6e6qx6n3

In some ways, that's a big ask. But Trocheck is also a proven center with an Olympic gold medal. He certainly could have that level of value.

It might become like a game of chicken -- who blinks first?

If the Rangers hold firm, a team might eventually decide it wants Trocheck enough to pay the big cost.

If no teams cave and pay the big cost, then Trocheck's price could go down to facilitate a deal.

The Rangers could always keep Trocheck, a risky move that would look smarter if New York played better this season.

This storyline isn't over, to be sure, and the hockey world will continue to wait and see where Trocheck ends up.
