An expanded World Cup means 40 more matches in 2026, but the goal for each team is still the same: win the final one.
While that goal is much more realistic for some than others, the start of the World Cup brings hope for all 48 teams in the field as they look to make their home fans proud on the biggest stage in the world.

World Cup matches today
Thursday, June 25
Six matches are set to be played on Thursday.
First, both the Ivory Coast (2-0 win over Curacao) and Ecuador (2-1 win over Germany) will complement Germany as the second and third-place teams from Group E. Then, Group F will begin their final group stage matches with Sweden vs. Japan and the Netherlands vs Tunisia.
Finally, Group D will close out the night with Australia vs. Paraguay and the United States vs. Turkey.
