Rangers may have made worst draft pick in NHL history

Some drafts are just better than others.

NHL fans on social media were enjoying that fact on Monday as they looked back at the second round of the 2007 NHL Draft, which included less than half of its players ever reaching the National Hockey League.

Here's how that looks in a nifty chart, before we break it down further:

P.K. Subban and Wayne Simmonds are the two clear wins there.

But you'll also notice those horizontal bars have one that goes only two squares after the draft.

That's Antoine Lafleur, who has a case as the worst draft pick in NHL history.

From 48th overall to two bad seasons in the QMJHL to out of the sport entirely:

Antoine Lafleur (drafted 48th overall by NYR) is probably the worst draft pick of the cap era, purely in the sense that after the draft he played two crummy seasons in the Q and then quit hockey entirely.

It's hard for it to get much worse.

Some careers end for unfortunate reasons, but this was just Lafleur hanging up his skates after not making any progress.

The New York Rangers have made plenty of good draft picks through the years. This was not one of them.
