The Texas Rangers are fighting hard to make it back in the postseason for the first time since winning the World Series for the first time in franchise history back in 2023.
Going into the weekend series, they are one game back of the Houston Astros for the top spot in the American League West, with a series against the Los Angeles Angels starting on Friday.
A good weekend could flip those standings, but even if that doesn't happen, the Rangers have put themselves in a good spot to fight for one of the AL wild cards, where they are currently tied with the Minnesota Twins for the final spot.
Rangers have an elite power-hitting prospect ready to ignite the lineup
It wouldn't be surprising if the front office were thinking about calling some prospects up to give them a boost the rest of the way out. But the question is, who?
Well, why not their top prospect, SS/3B Sebastian Walcott? He's seemingly ready for this stage, and one the crew over at MLB.com would really love to see called up.
"Walcott likely would be in the Majors at age 20 if he hadn't torn an elbow ligament and required internal brace surgery in February. He's back to DHing now and raking in Double-A: .311/.363/.554 with three homers in 18 games. Touted as the best Bahamian player ever when he signed for $3.2 million in 2023, he features well above-average power and arm strength. This isn't one of the stronger possibilities on this list, but that wouldn't make it any less fun to see if he could spark the Rangers."
Now, the likelihood of Walcott being called up is low, but crazier things have happened in this league. If the Rangers really want to see what they have in their youngster and are looking for a spark plug, the power-hitting, sure-armed defender could make the impact the club is searching for.
