Rams urged to fix CB room with free agent signing of Buccaneers Super Bowl champion

The Los Angeles Rams have a major need to address this offseason in their cornerback room. The weaker unit led to their NFC Championship loss, and is what might've cost them a Super Bowl title.

Now that Matthew Stafford is back, the Rams are likely to go all in for the 2026 season. They have great draft capital, some cap space to work with, and need to fill in the secondary.

Datlon Wasserman of PFF.com is urging the Rams, after their rough playoff exit to the Seattle Seahawks, to sign a free agent cornerback who won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Jamel Dean.

Rams urged to sign Jamel Deal to FA contract

"The Rams' secondary was a big reason why the team fell short of the Super Bowl," Wasserman writes. "... Tampa Bay's Jamel Dean is arguably the top cornerback on the market."

There's no clearer need for the Rams this offseason than their cornerback room. Adding a player like Dean, the likely top free agent cornerback, would make sense.

"Dean has historically excelled in zone coverage, which fits with a Rams defense that runs zone at the second-highest rate in the NFL," Wasserman writes.

Not only is Dean a cornerback to help the Rams' secondary woes, but he's a scheme fit as well. The fit makes sense, and the landing spot for Dean would be great.

The 29-year-old cornerback has been in the NFL since being selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He's spent all seven seasons with the Buccaneers and has put up 11 interceptions, including three this past season. He also had a pick-six this season, the second of his career.

While he has not made the Pro Bowl or an All-Pro team, Dean is one of the better cornerbacks on the open market this offseason.

He's a bit older, but for the Rams, who are in win-now mode, there should be no reservations over signing a player like Dean.

As Wasserman points out, there is a scheme fit, and with the massive need for the Rams, he would be a great target this offseason. Add on that Dean could play for a top Super Bowl contender, and this would be an easy choice for Dean this offseason.
