There might not be a single position in the NFL that's been more cursed than the Los Angeles Rams' kicker spot the last few years. Whether it's injuries, poor play, or bad luck, the Rams have struggled to fix this kicker position all year.
After Harrison Mevis was released following a blocked field goal that led to an overtime loss, the Rams signed Blake Grupe, whom they had to feel confident about after making his first 44-yard field goal. But he was hit hard on a kickoff and will miss the rest of the year.
As the 2-4 Rams try to figure out this kicking situation, they have, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, gone out and signed former Green Bay Packers and Denver Broncos veteran Brandon McManus to hopefully resolve this kicker problem.
Rams to sign Brandon McManus to hopefully fix K issues
"The Rams are signing veteran kicker Brandon McManus, per me and @MikeGarafolo, the latest in Los Angeles' kicker saga. He worked out today, along with FA K Matt Prater," Rapoport reports.
After cycling through Mevis and losing Grupe for the season, the Rams have now turned to McManus, the former Super Bowl champion and 35-year-old, as their new kicker.
He's played 12 seasons in the NFL, nine coming with Denver, two with the Packers, and one season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Last season for the Packers, McManus went 24 of 30 on his field goal attempts, good for 80.0%. It's not a great figure, but it's not horrendous either. He went 20 of 21 in 2024 with Green Bay, good for a career-best 95.2%.
While he might not reach such heights again, he's at least an experienced option for the Rams to turn to in hopes of getting some stability at the kicker position.
They don't need an elite kicker; they just need someone who can give the team something positive from the position this season. McManus, a kicker with an 82.0% field goal percentage in his career, might provide just that.
