Rams' Sean McVay reveals Aaron Donald update for Week 2

The Los Angeles Rams played their season opener without Aaron Donald, but even if he had played, it wouldn't have mattered. The Rams' offense looked poor, the defense as a whole was a bit underwhelming, and the San Francisco 49ers cruised to an easy win.

As good as Donald is, he would not have made up the difference to win that Week 1 matchup. To make matters worse, Myles Garrett is now on injured reserve. He's going to miss from Week 2 through at least Week 5.

While Garrett is going to miss time, what is Donald's status this season? According to Taylor Bisciotti of NFL Network, Sean McVay told reporters that the Rams still don't know what they're going to do with Donald.

Rams have not made an Aaron Donald start/sit decision for Week 2

"Rams HC Sean McVay on if Aaron Donald will play Monday: 'Haven't decided yet,'" Bisciotti reported Monday morning.

Following the rough Week 1 loss, the Rams will try to bounce back against the New York Giants. They're going to have to do it without Garrett.

But he might not be the only key defender to sit out. Donald isn't a lock to suit up in Week 2 against the Giants on Monday night.

The Rams are 0-1 to start the 2026 NFL season following their 27-7 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night in Australia.

While Donald's return would help them get back on track, McVay and the Rams haven't made a decision about whether Donald will be suiting up in Week 2 or not.

He's eventually going to come back and likely be a game-wrecker along the defensive line. But it's a long season, and rushing him back if he's not 100% good to go would be a mistake.

It shouldn't be a surprise that the Rams are being cautious with Donald. But following the Week 1 loss and the loss of Garrett, Donald's return means a lot more to this team than a luxury addition. He might be imperative to the defense's success going forward.
