The Los Angeles Rams are expected to be one of, if not the top, Super Bowl contenders during the 2026 NFL season.
Matthew Stafford is back, and the Rams went all-in by trading for Trent McDuffie and signing Jaylen Watson in free agency to resolve their biggest issue. However, there is one issue with the team.
As Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report projected, the Rams might have messed up this offseason with Stafford regarding the team's wide receiver room.
How Rams might've messed up this offseason for Matthew Stafford
"Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams: A lack of receiver depth," Gagnon writes. "There isn't a lot of talent or experience beyond Puka Nacua and Davante Adams at that position... If faced with extended stretches without either or both, the 38-year-old Stafford could be in big trouble."
Nacua and Adams are a great wide receiver duo, so there's no issue with the Rams' top receiver options. The issue comes with the team's depth chart.
Their third receiver is Jordan Whittington, with Xavier Smith, CJ Daniels, Konata Mumpfield, Tyler Scott, Mario Williams, Brennan Presely, and Tru Edwards rounding out the WR room.

Simply put, that's some bleak depth at wide receiver. With Adams at 33 years old, and with Nacua's injury history and current off-field issues, not finding depth at the WR position has led to this depth chart being the biggest obstacle for Stafford in 2026.
There are no coaching issues, the running back room is great, the offensive line is strong, and the tight end room is the deepest in the NFL. But the WR room is a bit worrisome.
This projection from Gagnon could become a real problem for the Rams and Stafford in 2026. Whether it's a free agent or trade target, the Rams ideally need one more solid WR to no longer have this be an issue for Stafford heading into 2026.
As things currently stand, the Rams look to have messed up with their wide receiver room. If they make one more addition of a solid WR, this lone issue for Stafford would be resolved, and the sky would be the limit for the Rams next season.
