Rams get $40 million contract update on breakout 26-year-old safety

The Los Angeles Rams have put together a strong defensive unit over the last year or so. While the defensive line has been a huge reason for the success of the unit, the secondary has also been a nice group, especially the safeties.

Quinten Lake was a free agent and already been paid by the Rams. He landed a nice three-year, $38 million extension through the 2028 season. But, he's not the only safety who's going to be a free agent after 2025.

Breakout safety Kamren Curl is also hitting free agency, and he's not going to be cheap. According to Spotrac.com, the 26-year-old Rams safety is projected to land a $40 million, four-year deal this offseason after an impressive 2025 season.

Rams get $40M projection on FA safety Curl

Spotrac's projection for Curl is a four-year deal which totals $40,1781,140, or $10,044,779 per season. It's not a cheap deal for Curl, but it would be worth it.

This season, the former Washington Commanders safety started all 17 games for the Rams, recording two interceptions, five pass breakups, one forced fumble, two sacks, and a career-high 122 tackles.

While he's not a Pro Bowler or All-Pro, his presence in the secondary has been huge for the Rams.

So far in the playoffs, heading into the NFC Championship game agaisnt the Seattle Seahawks, Curl has one interception, two passes defended, and an NFL-best 23 tackles.

He's allowed just an 89.5 passer rating in coverage this season, and is an overall positive for the defense. While paying two safeties might not be the greatest use of resources, the Rams need to keep the defense together, and Curl is a stellar player not worth losing.

The former 7th-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft is a great player, and someone the Rams should try to extend. If they do, this $40 million projection is a good place to start for the standout defensive back.
