Rams DC among coaches Giants' head coaching job candidates

The Los Angeles Rams are in the middle of a recent skid, but overall, their 202 5season has been a very impressive one. There are plenty of reasons why, but the defensive performance this season is one of the main reasons why they're 11-5.

Amid a strong year defensively, it's not a surprise that defensive coordinator Chris Shula is drawing some head coaching interest. He's already been linked to the Tennessee Titans job, and recently, he's added another team to his interview list.

According to Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com, the New York Giants have compiled a lengthy list of coaching candidates for their head coaching job, and Shula is one of the names on that list.

Rams' Chris Shula tabbed as Giants HC candidate

"The team had a head start on compiling a list of candidates that includes former NFL head coach Mike McCarthy, Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, former Raiders head coach and Giants player Antonio Pierce, and Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula," Raanan writes.

Shula is 39 years old, and with a strong legacy in the NFL through Don Shula, he could draw some extra attention as a potential head coaching candidate.

Also aiding in his potential search for a head coaching job is that Shula is connected to Sean McVay.

There's a craze to hire people from the McVay tree, and while Shula is on the defensive side of the ball, there's enough of a connection that Shula could draw a little extra interest.

One reason why Shula might draw more attention is that he's a younger coach and could join a team as a leader for a long time if all goes well.

Based on his defense, going from 17th in points allowed in 2024 to 2nd this season, there's plenty of reason why teams around the NFL in need of a head coach would be interested in Shula.

The Giants have him listed as one of their top candidates, and while there's no guarantee he gets the job, Shula is certainly one of the best candidates this cycle and could be a head coach within the next few years.
