The Las Vegas Raiders stink yet again this season and it's clear a total tear down is needed to get this team moving in the right direction again.
Knowing that, the Raiders should be sellers at the trade deadline and their top trade candidate is no doubt wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who is on the final year of his contract.
After not getting an extension done during the offseason, it's clear Meyers is not in the team's long-term plans. Adding to that, Meyers has wanted out since then and nothing has changed on his end, he recently told reporters. The Raiders must get something for Meyers before he departs for nothing in free agency in 2026.
In an article predicting trade deadline deals, Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon sees the Raiders and New England Patriots as a match for a Meyers trade.
"Meyers has spent the majority of his career with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, and the 28-year-old is in a walk year for the struggling Raiders. It would make sense for the Pats to try to bring him back to support Stefon Diggs," Gagnon wrote.
The Patriots' one-two punch of Stefon Diggs and Kayshon Boutte has been better than expected, but that doesn't mean that's going to last.
Even if it does, it still wouldn't hurt to add more weapons for second-year signal-caller Drake Maye, who is in the midst of an MVP-caliber season.
Meyers would give Maye a fantastic trio of wide receivers to target, and he should be able to get acclimated quickly thanks to his experience in Josh McDaniels' system.
Meyers could prove to be more than a rental, too, as he's set to turn 29 and is young enough to stick around for a few more years, at least, if he plays well enough to earn an extension.
Gagnon projects Meyers will cost a fifth-round pick, which would make this deal even more of a no-brainer for New England.
