The Las Vegas Raiders could be preparing to make some changes to the offensive line as training camp heats up.
After rotating Jordan Meredith and Jackson Powers-Johnson at starting center for the first handful of practices, it looks like Las Vegas is trying out a new lineup.
According to reports from Jesse Merrick of the Silver and Black Sports Network and Vinny Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Meredith is taking first-team reps at center during Thursday's practice, and Jackson Powers-Johnson is also with the starters, but at right guard.
"Jackson Powers-Johnson is working at RG with the first team offense while Jordan Meredith takes first team reps at center. JPJ is out there in place of Alex Cappa who’s taken most of the reps at 1st team RG," Merrick wrote on X.
"Let's try this again: Jackson Powers-Johnson NOW getting 1st team reps at RG with Meredith at center feels like the right next step. Hard to imagine JPJ not being part of the best group of five," Bonsignore wrote on X.
Initially, Powers-Johnson was expected to serve as the starting center, and Meredith was slated to be a depth piece. However, it sounds like the coaching staff is incredibly high on Meredith and wants him to play a key role on the offensive line in 2025.
Powers-Johnson was the best center in the nation during his final season with Oregon in 2023, but he played over 500 snaps at left guard during his rookie campaign in 2024 and also has experience playing right guard.
The 22-year-old's versatility and skill set are too valuable to keep on the bench, so Las Vegas is trying to find a position where he can start.
The offensive line and the different lineups the Raiders put together will be something to watch as camp goes on. The Raiders would be foolish not to start Powers-Johnson on the unit, but it looks like Meredith may have beaten him out for the center job.
