Penn State has seen a lot of its players make massive impacts in the NFL, and even after watching Saquon Barkley help lead the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl, there are still plenty of players taking up headlines in the NFL world.
Now, with football season right around the corner, former Penn State star defender Micah Parsons is putting pressure on the Dallas Cowboys amid his ongoing contract dispute.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the former Penn State star is considering requesting a trade from the Cowboys and potentially severing the relationship with the team amid the ongoing contract extension dispute between Parsons and Dallas.

— Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) August 1, 2025Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been at the center of attention for contract talks over the last few years, including Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Now, Parsons is at the center of the drama, with Jones playing hardball amid negotiations.
Parsons is one of the best edge rushers in the NFL and is asking for a massive pay raise. There's speculation he could earn a deal above $40 million per year to become the highest-paid non-quarterback by APY in NFL history.
While a huge deal, he's shown he's worth it based on his play. He's made the Pro Bowl every season in the NFL and has 52.3 sacks in his career across four seasons, never going lower than 12 sacks in a season.

He won the Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021 and is a two-time First-Team All-Pro. There are not many edge rushers who can compare to his talent, and the former Penn State star is asking for his due.
Parsons at Penn State totaled 6.5 sacks across two seasons, and was so impressive in his two years that he was drafted in the first round by the Cowboys in the 2021 NFL draft.
But now, the 26-year-old Parsons is looking for a huge extension, and Jones is balking at making such an offer. Amid that contract dispute, Parsons is considering "drastic measures," which could include a trade request.
The former Penn State star is dominating the headlines this offseason amid his contract negotiations. But this update from Russini is the furthest Parsons has gone in these talks, as he's threatening to demand a trade.
