The Las Vegas Raiders have had quite the past week with the Maxx Crosby situation, but the franchise must power forward.
With the draft now coming into focus, and the Raiders expected to take Fernando Mendoza at No. 1, many are of the thought that the Raiders need a top backup quarterback to help Fernando in his rookie season.
There are ample options out there, but one keeps popping up, and that's Kirk Cousins.
CBS Sports' John Breech is the latest to link Kirk to Las Vegas.
"Cousins would obviously prefer to go to a team where he might be able to start, but with those options drying up, the Raiders would make a lot of sense," Breech wrote. "For one, this would reunite him with Klint Kubiak. Would Cousins make sense in Las Vegas?
For the reasons Breech mentioned, it does seem like a fit.
Of course, Cousins might see himself as a starter, but the fact that he wasn't swooped up early in free agency likely tells him that teams don't view him that way anymore.
So, a backup role in Las Vegas might not be a bad alternative. Help bring Mendoza along and prepare him for the rigors of NFL football.
Granted, that sort of role isn't for everyone, but Kirk did it in Atlanta with Michael Penix Jr., so he might go back to that well with Mendoza.
