With the recent developments in the Padres clubhouse, fans of the team have been vocal on social media regarding the team's status. After a disappointing postseason run that saw them get eliminated in the wild card round, skipper Mike Shildt announced his retirement from the club on October 13.

Three weeks later, highly-touted starter Michael King announced that he will not be returning to San Diego and instead will try free agency this winter. Then in a recent article published by MLB insider Bob Nightengale, he named Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. as one of the trade candidates ahead of next season. The surprising news drew the ire of the team's fans given the volatile situation in the clubhouse.

Why in the hell would SD trade Tatis

Even though Nightengale's statement was more of a forecast, it didn't save him from the flurry of verbal jabs that Friars fans landed. It should be recalled that Tatis' 14-year, $340 million contract that was signed ahead of 2021 included a no-trade clause that the superstar could exercise. This further angered the fans and questioned Nightengale's statement.

The padres fans would riot and it would hurt business

Tatis is not being traded, he has a full NTC... However the suggestion happens each off season.

We do this whole Tatis thing every offseason, when are these journalists gonna learn he’s not going anywhere?

Apart from Tatis, other names included on the possible list were Reds fireballer Hunter Greene, Marlins ace Sandy Alcantara, D'backs star Ketel Marte, and Guardians Gold Glover Steven Kwan.

Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. awarded second Platinum Glove honor

For the second time in three years, Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. was awarded the Platinum Glove Award. The honor was given on Friday night during the MLB's annual tradition of awarding Gold Gloves to the league's best defensive players.

Apart from his two Gold Gloves, Tatis now holds two Platinum Gloves as well, a distinction given to the best defensive player in each respective league, regardless of position.

What is even more impressive about Tatis' feat was that he wasn't originally assigned to be an outfielder until he made the switch from shortstop in 2023. Since then, he has compiled a total of 42 defensive runs saved in his position, with 15 coming in the 2025 campaign. With his athleticism and eye for the ball on the defensive end, he bagged the only Padres' Gold and Platinum Glove this year.

Per Baseball Savant, Tatis belonged to the 92nd percentile in terms of outs above average and 99th percentile in terms of arm strength amongst all outfielders. In addition, he led all of the majors in putouts wth 351 and total fielding runs above average with 31 per Baseball Reference.
