Rafael Devers tells Red Sox GM Craig Breslow how to do his job after recent disrespect

The Boston Red Sox have lost Triston Casas for the year to a knee injury. The loss has sparked conversation about Rafael Devers potentially playing first base. According to MassLive's Christopher Smith, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow asked Devers to play first base.

Devers said he would not consider changing positions and is upset that Breslow even approached him with the request. The team made Devers switch to designated hitter, where he has been adjusting and learning for just two months.

"They had the conversation with me," Devers said, according to Smith. "I don’t think for me personally it’s the best decision after they asked me to play a different position and I only have two months of playing this position. To all of a sudden have me try to play another position ... from my end, it doesn’t seem like a good decision."

Devers continued to talk about Breslow and the team's problems at first base. He told reporters that he thinks Breslow and the front office need to do their job and find a first baseman on the market instead of disrespecting him by making him change positions again.

"They told me that they didn’t want to allow me to play any other position," Devers said, according to Smith. "And now I think they should do their job essentially and hit the market and look for another player (to play first base). I’m not sure why they want me to be in between, the way they have me now."

Devers went on to talk about how there needs to be a line drawn. He thinks that if he is once again flexible with his position, the team could take advantage of him and make him change positions again down the line. Manager Alex Cora has stayed steady in saying Devers will not change positions, but this is the second time Breslow has been linked to saying it could happen.

Abraham Toro and Romy Gonzalez have been sharing first base since Casa went down. Devers has made it clear that he wants to see them make a trade or stick with the current platoon.
