Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers has officially decided not to return to college football, even after unexpectedly falling to the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Despite speculation that he might take advantage of lucrative NIL offers to re-enter college, Ewers is committed to his professional journey with the Miami Dolphins.
Ewers, who was once projected as a first-round pick, saw his draft stock decline due to concerns over his arm strength, deep-ball accuracy, and a history of injuries, including shoulder and oblique issues that caused him to miss multiple games during his college career. He was ultimately selected 231st overall by Miami, signing a contract worth $800,000—considerably less than the estimated $4 million to $8 million he could have earned by returning to college through NIL deals.
During his time at Texas, Ewers showcased moments of brilliance, leading the Longhorns to consecutive College Football Playoff appearances and accumulating over 9,000 passing yards and 68 touchdowns. However, inconsistency and injuries prevented him from maintaining a top draft status.
Despite these challenges, Dolphins General Manager Chris Grier praised Ewers for his mental toughness and competitive spirit, particularly his resilience in the face of adversity and competition from high-profile teammates.
With Ewers leaving, the Longhorns are set to usher in the Arch Manning era. Manning, who has already shown significant potential in limited appearances, is expected to take over as Texas' starting quarterback.
