Quentin Nauman's incredible run on the track continued in his future home this past weekend. The Western Dubuque High School senior-to-be won a national championship at the Nike Outdoor Nationals/USA Track and Field U20 Championships.

The event was held at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene, where Nauman has already committed to run after he graduates.

Nauman raced to gold in the mile in a time of 4:00.52, just .01 seconds ahead of Evan Noonan from Nike Elite Club.

The 17-year-old swept the distance races at the recent Iowa high school state track and field championships. Nauman's time broke a nearly three-decade old mark in the race as he finished in 56 seconds to storm to the front.

Earlier in the meet, Nauman placed ninth in the 800. He also won the HOKA Festival of Miles in St. Louis earlier this month when he ran a junior-class national record 3:58.65.

Along with his clean sweep at state track and field, Nauman captured gold in the Class 3A state cross country meet last fall with the second fastest time in Iowa history. He will look to defend that title this coming season.

Nauman won the 800, 1,600, 3,200 and was on the winning distance medley relay for Western Dubuque in 3A at state track, adding to four titles he won as a sophomore and three Drake Relays championships, which were all ran inside Drake Stadium.

Several other Iowa preps competed at the meet with Abby Mecklenburg and a relay from Ankeny securing national All-American honors.
