Proposed Reds trade sees Cincinnati land $50 million All-Star, Gold Glove as major upgrade from T.J. Friedl

The Cincinnati Reds made the playoffs for the first time since 2020, and immediately got snuffed out by the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, they found out how to make it there; now they need to make some upgrades so they can progress further.

According to Fansided’s Chris Landers, the first upgrade is to get some hitting, preferably a lefty for their righty-dominated lineup. Landers proposed that Chicago White Sox All-Star Luis Robert Jr. would be the perfect trade candidate.

“With an overstuffed rotation already, finding pitching to entice the White Sox shouldn't be too hard. And Robert would be a major upgrade over TJ Friedl in center, both offensively (where he'd be a major bounce-back candidate in the Great American Small Park) and defensively. It would make this lineup very right-handed, but when you're in Cincy's position, you just need to acquire whatever talent you can,” Landers wrote.

This past season, Robert slashed .223/.297/.364/.661 with 12 doubles, 14 home runs, and 53 RBI in 110 games played. However, like Landers said, playing in the Reds’ hitter-friendly park would definitely rejuvenate Robert’s numbers, and playing for a playoff contender might get him back in a winning mindset.

Robert could be the perfect player to land: He’s an All-Star, and his Silver Slugger bat will play well in Great American, and his Gold Glove will do well to rob hitters on the other team trying to take advantage of their park as well.

Hopefully, the Reds get some negotiations started, as this could be a move to make the offseason a success.
