Proposed Lakers trade involving Luka Doncic lands $244 million Timberwolves superstar

Luka Doncic has already been traded once in his career.

The 6-foot-8 stud’s tenure with the Dallas Mavericks ended last February, as the 2011 NBA champions felt it was in their best interest to ship him to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis.

Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey has a hunch that the six-time All-Star could get traded again under the right circumstances, this time, to the Minnesota Timberwolves for an established 24-year-old superstar.

"An ‘Anthony Edwards or Luka Doncic’ debate creeps up on social media every once in a while,” Bailey wrote Thursday. “And after the Luka trade went down last season, it was eventually revealed that the Dallas Mavericks may have tried to trade him for Edwards, too.”

“The Minnesota Timberwolves reportedly turned down the idea, so this trade is probably a non-starter. But again, we're operating in a world in which Edwards, Doncic (or both) have decided they want a new start. And in that case, there may be some sense to be made of this one.”

The Lakers would acquire Edwards, a 2030 first-round pick swap, and a 2026 second-round pick; the Timberwolves would acquire Doncic, and the Brooklyn Nets would receive Joan Beringer in Bailey’s complete trade idea.

One could argue that swapping Doncic for Edwards would benefit Los Angeles tremendously, as Edwards is far more competitive on the defensive end of the floor and doesn’t need to be hidden.

However, trading Doncic is truly unjustifiable, as the former No. 3 overall pick is a fan favorite in Los Angeles, is having an MVP-caliber season, and is an asset the Lakers should commit to building around for years to come.

In other words, things would have to go terribly wrong for the Lakers to even entertain the idea of parting ways with their recently-acquired star.
